Scott’s Story

Growing up in a close-knit family in the southern suburbs of Sydney, I discovered my passion for technology at the age of 13 (1979) when I received my first computer. Over the years, I honed my skills and embraced the challenge of solving complex technical problems. Alongside my love for technology, I nurtured my passion for music, playing the guitar with my family band for over 30 years, the footy (the Cronulla Sharks) and building strong connections through our shared passion.

1n 1996, at 30 years of age, I was running our family pub at Ramsgate, south of Sydney. We turned a neglected and struggling venue (with only a dozen people in it on a Friday night), into a very successful and much-loved local community meeting spot, workplace and live entertainment venue.

In 2000, we sold the pub and at the height of the emerging internet, dot com boom launched BANGitUP – a building and construction industry website that became the #1 website in Australia for the industry.

But, it hasn’t all been an easy ride. In 2007, I experienced a significant loss when my father, my greatest mentor and chairman of Maxys, tragically drowned in a boating accident. This devastating event made me even more determined to honour his memory by building on his legacy and continuing to make a difference in the lives of others.

In 2015, at the age of 49, I faced one of my most significant personal challenges when I was diagnosed with tongue cancer and told I may not be able to ever speak again – for someone who loves a chat that was shattering. Fortunately, cancer hadn’t spread far, and this experience only strengthened my resolve and determination to overcome adversity and contribute meaningfully to the world around me.

Throughout my life, I have experienced both business successes and failures, each one teaching me invaluable lessons and shaping me into the resilient, adaptable, and empathetic leader I am today. My unique background has granted me a deep ability to connect with clients and guide them on their journey to unlock their full potential.

My partner, Kim, has been a constant source of support and inspiration throughout our 26 years together, and my Great Dane, Harold, keeps me grounded and reminds me of the importance of enjoying life’s simple pleasures.
